Design Director and the creative mind behind many of Epic Games’ popular title, Cliff Bleszinski has announced his departure from the company. It was quite surprising for the video games community to find out about his sudden departure. But according to official statement from Bleszinski, he isn’t leaving Epic to join another studio; he is only taking a break.

Bleszinski’s departure was announced through Epic Games blog where a several different employees of the company wished him luck for his future career. He served Epic Games as the main design director of many of the popular titles for more than 20 years.

Bleszinski started his career with Jazz Jackrabbit and later made a huge contribution to the Unreal series. During the nineties, Unreal Tournament took the video games industry by a storm and changed how first person shooters are played today.

Later on Bleszinski helped create Gears of War franchise on Xbox 360 and PC. This franchise also made a huge name for Epic Games in the console video games industry. Bleszinski was currently working on Gears of War: Judgment when he announced his departure. The game is set to be released on Xbox 360 in March 2013.

Bleszinski has worked in the video games industry since the very beginning of his teen years. He has become a local legend amongst the video game’s community. Although he said he was taking a break from developing games, other big names recently quitting Epic Games suggest that it could be another case.

In August, Epic Games saw Producer Rod Fregusson and Creative Director Adrian Chmielraz quitting the studios. It is quite possible that Bleszinski also left due to the same issues these two faced. For now we can only wish Cliff good luck and hope that he returns to the gaming industry when he is done with his break.
