When BlackBerry first emerged in the scene, it took the market by storm. However, RIM soon lost its path and sales of BlackBerry started to fall. It’s very distressing to see such a great company become disenchanted and lost in time.

The New York Times reported that BlackBerry devices have now become an inducement for scorn and ridicule from Android and iPhone owners. Furthermore, BlackBerry owners are ashamed and embarrassed as their devices cannot do some amazing things such as the Android devices or the iPhone.  Till a couple of years ago, BlackBerry devices were seen as a status symbol of the most privileged people in the society.

However, within a few years the brand image of this device has changed all together. New York Times reporter, Nicole Perlroth took an interview of a BlackBerry owner and this is what she stated; when Nicole asked Rachel about her BlackBerry she said that she was so humiliated by it. Adding further, Rachel said that she avoids flashing her phone in front of android users as she knows her phone is not capable of doing some trendy things like the Android devices. She confessed that she has stopped taking out her phone at conferences and parties.

On the other hand, a few days back the makers of Blackberry, RIM stated that it will launch BB 10 next year in March. As a promotion for this device and in order to attract developers, RIM has also offered 10,000 dollars to app developers who would generate anything above $1000.

All eyes are on BB 10 as this will be a make-or-break device for the company. Already, RIM is in deep waters and sales are sluggish. According to a latest survey, it was revealed that only 5 percent of the Smartphone users use BlackBerry devices. Out of the 5 percent who do own a BlackBerry, most are federal government workers. America’s corporate sector is shifting to iPhone and Andriod.

Marissa Mayer, the Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo traded in workers’ BB devices for Android and iPhones.
