I am mostly a very cool hearted gamer and I have often come across video games that urged me to throw my controller to the screen, but Death Rally is one of those games that really made me do it. One of the biggest issues of the game is its controls and the camera perspective.

Here I was expecting a great top down racer with lots of upgrades and fun moments, but when I finally got to play the game, I had very opposite feelings and opinions about it. Death Rally promises a lot of upgrade and cool content but getting that content is something that will drive you insane.

The major issue with the game is the top down camera. It seems that developer remedy failed at giving you proper controls with the camera that they chose to go with. First of all, driving a car and staying in your line is one of the biggest issues of the game. I almost never get myself to control the car so I can stay in a single line.

The top down camera is not good when you have thousands of tight turns and a hell lot of stuff on map that blocks your vision almost every time you decide to do something. Normally with games like these you get a mini map that helps you guide your way around the map/arena. Death Rally lacks this feature hence making it an apocalypse for the player.

Earlier I mentioned that Death Rally promises a lot of cool content and weapon upgrades, but the problem is all of these so called cool upgrades are not available until the very end of the game. For example, the mines, one of the best weapons you can use against your opponents when you are the leading force is absent from 80% of the game.

So for the rest of the game, you are stuck with your typical weapons that require you to be behind your opponents in order to shoot them down. What’s even better is that whenever you are killed by your opponent, you lose in game currency known as fame. This is what unlocks most of the upgrades for you in the game and when you are dying a lot, consider saying good bye to all those upgrades.

Death Rally is a mess of a game. The current control scheme with the given camera perspective makes it nearly impossible to play the game right. So my suggestion is that if you are someone who gets frustrated very easily, stay far away from the game because it will get you in anger mode sooner than you think.
