Electronic Arts recently announced that the company is currently in talks with Microsoft to create games for Windows Phone 8.
The new mobile operating system will arrive on the market soon and Electronic Arts wants to partner up with Microsoft.
This might represent a surprise, given the fact that Microsoft struggled to increase the company’s exposure on the smartphones market.
However, Electronic Arts thinks that Windows Phone 8 has a lot of potential and the COO of the company, Peter Moore, recently said that it never hurts to have access to many platforms.
“We are working closely with Microsoft to understand the company’s vision on the gaming industry” Moore said.
“Any platform that adopts gaming is good for Electronic Arts” Moore also added.
And it’s true. We noticed that Electronic Arts has started to focus on games for mobile devices and social networks. Electronic Arts doesn’t ignore traditional games, but the company often said that the digital ecosystem represents the future of gaming.
Electronic Arts wants a share out of as many digital markets as possible, so we understand why the company is so excited about Windows Phone 8 despite the fact that Microsoft has some problems on the smartphones and tablets market.
Unfortunately, Microsoft’s biggest efforts were not enough to outrank Android ( from Google ) and iOS ( from Apple ).
Android and iOS are still very popular on the mobile market ( Android more than iOS ) while Microsoft failed to advance to the next level.
According to the latest available statistics, Android has 70% of the mobile market, iOS has 17% while Windows Phone only gets 3.5%.
Microsoft is trying to make the Windows Phone platform more popular and Electronic Arts, the popular game publisher, is willing to help out.
Will Electronic Arts’ intentions help ? Well that is a question that will only be answered probably next year considering that Windows Phone 8 will come out only in the last trimester of this year.
