Rumors of two new PlayStation 3 models have just hit the internet as some FCC filings have revealed that Sony might be producing two new models for its home console. The PlayStation 3, which currently has a model number of CECH – 3000 is now opting for two new model numbers, CECH – 4000 and CECH – 4000B.
The model number filings in the FCC reveal that it is possible for the company to release a new slimmer version of its popular console. Although details about the new console are scarce, analysts believe that it would probably a slimmer addition to the home console model family.
Eurogamer, which is a popular game magazine in Europe, has heard from close sources that the new models filed today will indeed be smaller and thinner in nature. The website has also revealed that Sony plans to announce the new models during next month’s Gamescom.
Sony already has a slim edition of the PlayStation 3, but due to new and improved technology, the company can further reduce it size. Kotaku believes that a release of a new slimmer console is inevitable if the history of the company is studied carefully. The PlayStation 2 also got new models at the very end of its life cycle.
This could indicate that Sony is now planning to bring an end to its PlayStation 3 life cycle. With these new consoles being the last in the series, Sony could be making way for its new next generation console next year.
News of PlayStation 4 has already been going around the web for quite some time. According to numerous rumors, the new PlayStation is code named ‘Orbis’ and has been under development since 2010. According to other sources, the new console is going to bring AMD’s x64 based processors with graphic card from the same manufacturer.
The Orbis is going to be a very powerful console as rumors suggest that it will be able to play games on a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels, with the ability to run games in full 3D in 1080p resolutions. Reports from developers also suggest that many of them have already received the developing edition to start working on games for it.
