Google, Yahoo, Bing – most of the main search engines in the world keep a record of what you’re searching for and they build different profiles based on these searches.

If you’re sick of this, then you might want to try out an alternate search engine, a search engine that is not going to use your personal information.

DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo is a search engine very popular amongst the ranks of those who value online privacy. As mentioned on the company’s website, the search engine does not store any information that might identify users.

It does not use Cookies and it deletes the users IP addresses.

Also, the search engine is unable to tell if two searches were made from the same computer. It’s homepage is simple and clean, even cleaner than Google.

Because DuckDuckGo doesn’t know anything about you, it can’t provide different results based on each user. You’ll get the same results as everyone else.

Startpage

If you prefer Google results and you want just a little bit more privacy then you might want to try out Ixquick’s Startpage. Startpage uses Google to return the search results.

All Google sees are search queries from the Startpage website. Google is unable to associate any of these searches with you and can’t alter the results. Just like DuckDuckGo, Startpage does not use Cookies, it automatically deletes IP addresses and does not keep a search record.

Ixquick

Ixquick is the main search engine used by the company which developed Startpage. Unlike Startpage, Ixquick provides search results from many other sources, not only from Google. This may be good or bad, depending on how much you like Google search results.

Ixquick and Startpage have an almost identical design. Ixquick has the same privacy policy as Startpage.

Blekko

Blekko is not as advanced as DuckDuckGo and Ixquick however it’s better than Google, Bing and Yahoo in protecting your online identity. Blekko stores personal information but they are deleted after 48 hours. Google keeps your personal info for 9 months and then they are made anonymous, but without deleting them.

Still, if you want you can block this by checking the SuperPrivacy option. Also, Blekko allows you to disable ads on the page.

Ask.com – AskEraser

Ask.com has the AskEraser option which you can activate on the Settings page. When you activate this feature, Ask.com is going to set a single cookie in your web browser showing that AskEraser is activated and will delete all other Ask.com cookies.

Your search history is not going to be saved only when you hit an important error and the data will be stored until the problem is solved.
