Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was recently released and developed by the new 38 Studios. The game saw positive reviews from critics and players alike, however, it did not manage to score the expect sale figures, thus creating havoc for the studios. While the newly built studios tries to figure out a way to stay in the business, its new project, a MMO based on the Amalur franchise has been leaked on the internet.
The video shows us around the world of Amalur, something we have already seen in the first game. According to reports, the studio was initially going to release Reckoning as a MMO game but sometime during its production, 38 Studios decided to make it a single player game instead. Today the video that leaked shows what the game studio has planned for the future of its intellectual property.
The world of Amalur MMO, code named ‘Project Copernicus’ shows us familiar places with the same art direction the studio went with the first game. The rich 2D/3D world of Amalur shows thick jungles, deserts and beaches. It did not reveal any other information about gameplay or the classes that will be available to play. Knowing how the first game worked, we can assume that ‘Project Copernicus’ will be built according to its predecessor. It will have fast paced combat that does not require the traditional MMO game style, but instead it will have a fast paced combat system.
With E3 on the horizon, we can expect further announcements about the game being made during the Electronic Arts conference that will be held on June 5th. It is unclear whether the video was accidently leaked or was actually revealed by the developers to attract investors to fund the project. Regarding its current state, it cannot be said whether the gameplay of the game has been decided or not.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which was released earlier this year, had players fighting evil forces in a fast paced gameplay. The hack and slash formula of the game had players crushing foes quickly for valuable items. The game had three basic classes which offered Melee, Ranged and Magic combinations.
