Minecraft which was released last year after a long and successful beta has already starting breaking sale records of popular triple A titles. Today in a report issued by Microsoft, it was revealed that Minecraft has now more users than the popular title Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox Live service. Minecraft has now become the second game on Xbox Live to have the most number of unique users playing it. The only game that is on top of indie game Minecraft is Activision’s popular title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Other games below Minecraft include the popular titles such as Battlefield 3, FIFA 12 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Minecraft on Xbox Live was released on May 9 and it has since become so popular that even triple A titles have been overshadowed by its success. According to reports, the developer already started making profits on the game right after 60 minutes of its initial release. In the first 24 hours of its release, the game was able to sell 400,000 copies and was able to sell more than a million copies in its first week. This has also earned Minecraft the achievement of becoming the fastest selling game on Xbox online platform.

Although Minecraft was developed by a single user, the console version of the game was taken over by 4J a studio which is known for games like Banjo-Tooie and Perfect Dark. Earlier this month it was revealed that Microsoft was in talks with the developers to bring support for their motion sensing controller Kinect for the game. An official patch will be launched which will introduce Kinect support. There is no expected date of the support but analysts predict it will be upgraded with the support during the summers.

Minecraft is enjoying a huge success on PC too where It first came into being. The game ran on in beta form for almost a year before it was released to become the most popular game on the platform. The developers have already confirmed that they will be making new games following the huge success of this title.
