Bethesda released an official update for Skyrim which brings the much awaited mounted combat to the game. Players can now mount up their horse and shoot arrows or swing their swords. Although Skyrim has been receiving a lot of modifications from third party developers, this is the first official support for mounted combat from Bethesda.
The release of the update was made available yesterday as Bethesda announced it through a blog post. Additionally the new update comes with a lot of bug fixes. For a complete list for bugs that were squashed by the team, head over to the official website for release notes. In order to download the update, those who got the game through steam can use their clients to access the settings of the game and initiate the Skyrim Beta section to automatically update. Bethesda warns players to make a copy of their save files before updating the game in order to avoid any corruption.
The update is being offered by Bethesda for free; however it is only currently available on the PC. Console update will also be released later when the developers are ready with it. No specific release date for the patch was announced for the console versions of the game. The current mounted combat patch is also still in its beta form, hence Bethesda claims that players may have some errors installing or playing it.
The release of patch on consoles is confirmed however. If you closely read the patch notes of the update that was made available on the PC, you will easily see the bug fixes section updating players with certain bugs that were fixed for Xbox. This means that Bethesda does plans to bring the update to the consoles but just not yet.
Earlier this year Bethesda added Kinect support for the Xbox console. The developers are certainly working hard to bring exclusive updates to its popular title. If you have been waiting for a long time to shoot a dragon while mounted on your horse, Bethesda just granted you your wish.
