Instagram is one app people are obsessed with these days. The application is available for free on Android and iOS devices. Most of the people I know are already on the application but if you aren’t, I think you are missing out on some good fun and a great way to kill time.
Instagram allows people to share their pictures with the world. The working of the application is similar to Twitter in many ways as you can use hashtags to promote your picture and keep following people (if you like to) to increase the likelihood of them following you back.
Many people wonder how some people have so many followers on Instagram or how their pictures appear on the Popular Page on the app. Becoming popular on Instagram is not really easy because there is a lot of competition; thousands and thousands of people are posting pictures similar to yours and attracting people to like your pictures and follow you requires some amount of effort.

Geotagging helps in letting people know your whereabouts and people want to familiarize themselves with others before they start following them on the application. Geotagging gives the watcher a better idea of where you are from and makes them relate to you more instead of when you simply upload pictures without tagging your location.
Hashtags are the key to becoming popular on the application. Instagram allows you to add 30 hashtags on one picture. Be careful about the tags you add and try researching on some popular tags. Tags such as #igers, #ig, #ignation and others are very popular and tagging your pictures with these hashtags will surely get you a lot of attention. People think that adding hashtags seems lame, but actually, it is not. If you want the world to see your art and pictures, you have to add hashtags.
You should also try to be very active on Instagram; follow people, comment on their pictures and increase your presence. The more you comment and indulge in interactive activities on the app, the more recognition you will get.
Lastly, you should also make sure that your profile is public and not private. Private profile doesn’t allow people to see your pictures unless and until they start following you and why would anyone randomly start following you? I know I won’t.
However, if you want to use Instagram just for fun; to share pictures with your friends who are also on the app, use it casually and upload whatever you want to. However, to gain popularity, you have to make an effort and be careful about your activities on the app.
