Earlier this year we saw the release of Sony’s next handheld, the PlayStation Vita. It came with many top notch features that no other handheld has, but for Sony, unfortunately the console did not perform too well around the world. In an attempt to increase sales and attract more consumers, Sony is actively enhancing the capabilities of the PSVITA and today the console has finally been blessed with Skype application.
If you already have a Skype app on your Smartphone, you should immediately feel home to the PSVITA version. The application basically works pretty much the same way as it would on a Smartphone, allowing users to make free Skype to Skype voice and video calls. Using the two cameras available on the Playstation Vita, a user can select which camera it wants to use for video chatting. Upon installing the application on a sample PSVITA, we found the interface tailored and specifically designed to blend well with the current PSVITA interface.
One of the best features of the Skype app is that it does not interrupt your gaming session. The application actually allows you to pause your game and initiate a call using Skype. And if you ever come across an incoming call with Skype, you can easily accept it and the app pauses your game for you. The Skype application also allows users to make calls using the Skype credits. This allows them to easily make Skype to land line phone calls across the world without worrying to use their Smartphone or PC. The same credits you have earned on your Smartphone application or PC, can be used with the PSVITA application.
The introduction of Skype application on the PSVITA will definitely give it some kick. But considering its current sale figures, it is hard to believe that Skype will save the console from bad sales. But considering that you can now use your Vita to conduct and receive calls without interrupting your video games, this is actually a pretty nice deal. Users can head on to the Sony application store on the PS network and grab it for free.
