When Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure was released, it gained a lot of popularity due to the developers adding in new characters with special abilities and look. The only way to unlock new characters on Skylanders was to go to a shop and buy one. Because it is not always possible for everyone to pay up for a new character, or for the shops to keep the figures in stock, the developers have released this handy game. Skylanders: Cloud Patrol is a decent shooter game that lets you unlock new characters for the game by just playing it.
While I was doing a review for Skylanders: Cloud Patrol, all I had to do to unlock a new character was to shoot a bunch of monsters. After a few minutes, I had earned enough in game currency to unlock new characters for the game. I saw many new characters and familiar faces in the in game shop; however, not all were available for unlocking yet. These characters are promised to be released soon in the store.
Unlocking characters in Skylanders: Cloud Patrol provide more than just looks and charm. Each character has an element affinity to it and every day, the game changes the element for the day. If you use a character with fire element for example, on the day when fire element is turned on, you earn extra cash for defeating foes.
The gameplay in Skylanders: Cloud Patrol is quite simple. You tap the screen and your character shoots a cannonball at the location. Swipe your finger across multiple enemies and your character shoots a cannonball that flies around killing more than one monster and earning you bonus currency.
My only concern while playing Skylanders: Cloud Patrol was that the screen often gets too busy with stuff around. There is a lot happening in a single sequence and touch an oncoming bomb from your enemy means its game over for you. I found that bombs can often come in your way and it gets really tricky to not touch them.
Nevertheless, Skylanders: Cloud Patrol provides a lot of fun for a small game. It’s a decent gallery shooter with only few flaws.
