The recent rumors about Dell buying out the Thin-Client manufacturer Wyse Technology have come true. Dell has just signed the agreement which will help it acquire the company and will help increase the desktop options offered by Dell.

Virtualization desktop PCs allows businesses to manage their data through a small thin client which does not have the operating system installed on them. Instead, these are connected to a server which hosts a virtual machine which gives access to a virtual operating system.

After Dell has acquired Wyse Technology, it will allow the computer manufacturer to obtain advantages of both the virtualization technology and thin clients. It will allow Dell to offer desktop products with both hardware and software benefits of the company in a single package.

Wyse Technology currently holds a good portfolio of both zero clients and thin clients. Last month, the company even introduced its latest T10 series which is based on the popular ARM processor. This allowed the company to keep the costs and operating temperature of their thin clients.

The T10 series is based on Wyse Technology’s own operating system known as the ThinOS. This operating system is specifically designed to work with thin clients offered by the company. After getting their hands on a thin client, businesses can easily take advantage of the operating system to get into virtualized desktops. These desktops are based on VMware, Microsoft and Citrix.

Wyse has also offered a technology in the past that lets consumers uses their thin clients to control Apple’s iPhone and iPad, and any Android based devices.  The company recently announced that it is hard at work producing Stratus, a software/hardware combo that lets IT professionals to control and manage devices such as tablets, smartphones, zero clients and thin clients as they please. The operation of this software is done through either a cloud based console owned by the business or the individual himself.

Desktop virtualization isn’t something new for Dell. The company has already been offering this technology through various solutions, but after today, its options will have significantly increased.
