Another great game from Double Fine Productions has finally landed on my hands for the review. the new game Happy Action Theater may be lighter on the side of content compared to Stacking and Costume Quest, but there is plenty of fun to be reaped here. The game uses the Kinect controller and I am glad that it does everything alright. The unique mechanics of the game do not have any kind of scoring system, menus or competition; it’s all about just playing the game. The extremely simple nature of the game makes it attractive to any kind of audience, particularly children.
Happy Action Theater ports up to 6 players in front of the Kinect sensor to a stage filled with events, some of which are really fun than others. I felt that some of the events are very well done and are fun to play, while others did not give me the same amount of fun I was expecting. The only thing that disappointed me about the game was that it is a bit too short. Once you are done with the 18 mini events, that is pretty much all it has to offer.
For a family, Happy Action Theater is an excellent game, and I feel that no matter how many times you play the events, they will still feel new. Earlier in the review I said that this game will particularly charm children, but that’s not all, it is also a great party game to play with your friends too. If you are tired of weight loss routines in fitness based games, this serves as an excellent diversion. There really isn’t much to say about the rest of the game except that every event will interest you in some way. For just $10, I am not going to complain the length of content.
Happy Action Theater is an excellent and fun game to play. I hope that Double Fine Productions will add new content to the game as time passes on. It would be really great to see a couple of more mini events to play with.
