Victor Martinez is most likely to miss the entire 2012 season as he had a knee injury and requires another operation. On Friday, the star had a micro-fracture surgery to refurbish the lateral and medial meniscus in his left knee. In a statement, Dave Dombrowski, President and general manager of Detroit Tigers said that he already knew that Martinez will have another surgery. Adding further, he said that he will be sorely missed in this season. Furthermore, on his same left knee, the star is expected to have anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery. The surgery may take 6 – 8 weeks. On Monday, Detroit Tigers revealed that Martinez is expected to be out for the 2012 season. Previously, nearly 2 weeks ago when the Detroit Tigers revealed that Martinez injured his left knee, the team management said that the hitter is expected to remain out for the entire season.

Dr. Richard Steadman executed the first 2 operations of Martinez last week in Colorado. In a statement, Dombrowski said that he didn’t know the extent of injure until Dr. Steadman arrived. Adding further, he said that Steadman is an expert in his field and whatever discussion he will take will be right for the hitter. As a replacement of Martinez, last week the Detroit Tigers signed Prince Fielder. The Tigers signed a 9 year contract estimated to be worth $214 million with the free agent slugger. In 2011, Martinez struck .330 with 103 RBIs. He helped the Tigers to win the division in his 1st season while playing for them. Before last season, the hitter signed a $50 million, 4 year contract.

Last year, Fielder matched his career high hitting .299 with 38 home runs and a total of 120 RBIs. Fielder made it to the list of the top five in AL MVP voting. This was the third time that the slugger reached to the top position. Last year, the Tigers won the Al Central by 15 games. In the playoffs they were far ahead of the New York Yankees.
