General Motors Co revealed that majority of its 4,400 United States dealers have given their approval to upgrade their showrooms in the coming four years. The upgrades will include contemporary interior, new signs, lounges that have free wireless connectivity and some other additions. In some cases, some dealers may also be open for salons or cafes.

General Motors revealed its plans at National Automobile Dealers Association which took place in Las Vegas. The company also said that 3,400 of its dealers have given their approval to the upgrades, while 1000 have already been completed. The company further said that it has plans to give its dealers more service training and sales in order to encourage them to do more. GM said that it wants to encourage its dealerships to do more marketing on the internet. According to Tom Henderson, a spokesperson of the company, if the dealers meet the upgraded standards, they will get quarterly payments.

The spokesperson revealed that 36 percent of the total GM stores were build decades ago, before 1970.

General Motor’s North America’s President, Mark Reuss said that they are investing in their retail network because the customer buying a new vehicle is hopeful of getting a shopping experience that matches the character of the brand which they have put under consideration.

However, some of the dealers raise questions at the cost, which can go up to $1 million a dealer. They also said that the cost will be difficult to pay by the smaller dealers.

General Motors however isn’t the only car manufacturing company which is requesting its dealers to upgrade their showrooms and facilities. Previously, Ford Motor Co revealed that more than 50 percent of its dealers have done major renovations in their dealerships while others have accepted to upgrade their facilities in the future.
