Kyle Dyer has been doing a spot on 9News, an affiliate of NBC, for several years. She usually focused on animal segments and on Thursday, she was featuring an Argentine Mastiff. This very large dog had fallen into a frozen lake only one day before. The owner of the dog and the firefighter that rescued “Gladiator Maximus” were both on the morning news show with Kyle Dyer.
The dog lunged at Dyer when she leaned down towards the dog. She was bit on the lip and required surgery. There has been a lot of controversy over the fact that the video was quickly put up online. The “Today Show” talked about the show on its Thursday morning broadcast, but they didn’t show the video. 9News also didn’t show the video and has sent notices to those people who put the video up on the internet to take the video down.
9News has been the subject of controversy in the past over airing violent vides, including one of a traffic accident just this past December.
The director of 9News, Patti Dennis, told viewers this morning that Dyer was doing just fine after surgery and that she is expected to make a full recovery. She was released from the hospital the same day as the attack. Dennis also said that the network is involved with several animal charities. They are also reconsidering their current policy of bringing animals into the studio.
The owner of the dog has been issued three citations – one for not keeping his dog on a leash, one for preventing it from biting Dyer, and one for failing to vaccinate his dog. The dog is currently in the custody of Denver’s animal control. If it does not show any other aggressive behavior, then it will be released back to its owner.
