There has been a major shakeup at the X-Factor. We know that Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul are no longer going to be part of the judging panel. Likewise Steve Jones of Chanel 4 is going to lose his post as a host for the show that is becoming notorious for sacking its workers in ignominious circumstances. The second season is planned for the fall and it seems that the program managers are trying to get rid of those elements that are perceived to be surplus to requirements. Fox has conformed that Steve and Nicole are no longer part of the team. Previously there was the infamous sacking of Cheryl Cole on account of her accent. This can only be described as an exercise in bloodletting as the program attempts to win back viewers and to make a lasting impact on the American viewing public.
Heartless approaches to auditions
Nobody can accuse Simon Cowell of being softie. On the contrary, this is one of the most direct and abrupt music millionaires out there. If he thinks that you are loser, he will tell you to your face without a hint of humor. That is the combative style that has made his shows very compelling to audiences even if many of them disagree with the methods that he has been using. Paula Abdul would be a surprising absentee from the season given the amount of time that she has invested in the show and the impressions you get about her working relationship with Simon. He is hardly going to get rid of someone that is a tower of strength for him in many respects. One advantage that the speculation brings is the increased interest in the program. Many people are anxious to know whether their favored stars are going to get the proverbial chop.
In the first season, the X-Factor was a solid performer even if many people complained that all the incidents had been specifically scripted in such a way as to sensationalize the show. On the other hand they did not enjoy the ratings dominance that had been a main feature of the success within the UK. It seems that the Americans are rather cynical when it comes to these things. Critics were not impressed by Steve Jones and Scherzinger. The latter is particularly in a lot of trouble given the fact that she seemed generally pleased when Cheryl Cole was unceremoniously sacked from the show. Nicole is trying to put a good spin on things through her fans by claiming that it was her idea to give up the show. We know better.
The changes are good news for Ryan Seacrest who now appears to be a certainty for some role. Reality formats are very brutal on contestants and some people might be of the view that it is about time the judges began to get a taste of their own medicine. First of it was Sharon Osborne and now the rest of the group is being disbanded. Meanwhile Simon Cowell remains very much part of the program.
