“The Walking Dead” Recap – “Triggerfinger”

In this 9th episode of Season 2 of “The Walking Dead,” the storyline picks up right where the last episode left off. Lori had wrecked her car and was unconscious in the overturned vehicle. She wakes up just in time to kill a walker that is trying to come through her broken windshield. She kills that one, gets out of the car, and finds another walker that’s coming up right behind her. She manages to slip away from the zombie and get her gun that was in the car. She kills that walker and starts marching down the road to find Rick, Glenn, and Hershel.

In the meantime, the three men are trying to come to terms with the fact that Rick just shot and killed two men that wandered into the saloon. It doesn’t take long for friends of the dead men to show up. There ends up being a gunfight. Rick tries to cover Herschel and Glenn to allow them to leave through the back. Glenn, however, panics when a bullet comes dangerously close to his head. He’s paralyzed with fear and while no one really blames him, he’s having a hard time dealing with his fear.

Herschel and Glenn end up out back and Rick joins them. The other drifters are still trying to kill them, but eventually, they just want to leave. One of them is up on top of the roof of the bar and when he tries to jump down, his leg ends up impaled on a metal fence. Another drifter is shot by Herschel and then eaten alive by the walkers. The third leaves. Rick, Herschel, and Glenn decide that they’re going to help the kid impaled on the fence. The walkers are coming hard and fast. Herschel tries to take the kid’s leg off at the knee, but he’s running out of time. Rick rips the kid’s leg off the fence and off the men go.

Shane had gone out to look for Lori and finds her walking along a road. He tells her that Rick, Herschel, and Glenn have already returned to the farm – a lie – in order to convince her to go back there. Once they get there, Shane lets it slip that Lori is pregnant, which is a fact that Carl doesn’t know. When Shane and Lori are alone later, he tells her that what happened to Otis happened because he’s in love with her. Shane is a little weirder in this episode, as he’s telling Lori that he’s the only one that can really protect her, Carl, and the rest of the survivors. Lori finally begins to see just how dangerous Shane really is.

Beth is still in a catatonic state and Maggie and Andrea share a store about when Maggie and Beth were kids. Andrea is showing her softer side here, but it’s quickly gone when she realizes that she’s about the only person left who is on “Team Shane.”

Carol and Darryl are going through a lot together with the death of Sophia. Darryl is reverting back to his old ways, but Carol is trying to reach him. She accepts his hurtful statements about her abilities as a mother, which may be about the most loving and smartest thing she can do.

When Rick, Herschel, and Glenn make it back to the farm, Glenn tries his best to avoid Maggie. He feels like her declaration of love was what made him freeze and he really doesn’t want any more of it. Lori talks to Rick about Shane and tells him that she’s scared of him, as are many other people. The episode seems to be setting up for Shane to leave in the near future or at least to be called out on all the stuff he’s done.
