It’s been a month since the midseason finale of “The Walking Dead” aired and for many fans of the show, the first half of season two has been the best so far. The midseason premiere took up right where the last episode ended – Rick has just shot Sophia after she walked out of Herschel’s barn full of walkers. Herschel’s family is stunned and shocked at what they’ve just seen. Rick and Shane’s group is simply dumbfounded that Sophia has been inside the barn the whole time they have been looking for her. It begins to dawn on the group that Otis, who Shane killed and left for the walkers at the high school, was probably the only one who knew that Sophia was inside.
Shane believes otherwise, though. He thinks that Herschel has known all along that Sophia was inside. Herschel tells Rick that Shane is no longer welcome on the farm and needs to leave. Not everyone on the farm or in the group thinks what Shane did was wrong, though. T-Dog and Andrea believe that it had to be done. Dale is simply off in his own little world. Carol, Sophia’s mother, is lost without her daughter.
Rick is mad at himself that he led the group to find Sophia. He believes that he put all of them in danger. However, it’s Herschel who is really the one who has changed the most. After being sober for decades, he spends heads into town to drown his sorrows after losing his wife. Glenn and Rick decide to go into town to try to get Herschel to come back. Glenn is in an awkward situation, too. Maggie tells him that she is in love with him before he leaves with Rick and Glenn finds he couldn’t say the same in return. Rick basically tells Glenn that he’s an idiot because anyone else on the farm can see that Maggie loves him.
Glenn tells Rick that he’s really sorry he brought the morning after pills back to Lori. Rick said that it was okay; however, what Rick doesn’t know is that Lori was tired of waiting for Rick and Glenn to come back. She gets into one of the cars and heads to town. She hits a walker wandering down the middle of the road, causing her car to veer off the road and flip several times.
At the bar, Rick and Herschel have it out. Herschel realizes what a fool he’s been when it came to keeping the walkers. He knows now that the people he thought he could eventually save were already dead.
The men at the bar get a little surprise when two slime balls come strolling in. It appears that they are from the East Coast and are looking for a new group to join. Herschel, Rick, and Glenn try to make it clear that there is no one new that will be allowed to live at the farm. The conversation ends up turning very threatening. In the end, Rick shoots and kills both of them, but not before he learns that Fort Benning is completely overrun with walkers. Now, it’s time for Rick to decide what to do next.
