The Premature Death of Christopher Reimer

February 23, 2012 by: 0

He was a guitarist for Women, an Indie band from Canada. We have just received the news that Christopher Reimer passed away at the tender age of 26.  He had also been a touring member of Dodos. The report indicates that he died in his sleep but the cause of death has not yet been established. The Canadian Label Flemish Eye represented the band and claims that the artist suffered from a heart condition as well as other health problems. The label founder Ian Russell released a statement in which he paid tribute to the late artist.

A young man who left impressions

Most people will remember Christopher Reimer for his sense of humor and generous attitude to working on tour. His career with both Women and Dodo was distinguished. There were tributes from Jagaguwar, an American label for the band. They pointed out the virtuosity with which he handled his instruments. The band first came to prominence in 2008 when they released a self titled album which was recorded on tape in a basement. The collaborative force behind this initial project was Chad VanGaalen. Critics were impressed by the dark melodies and the perfection with which they were executed.

The Women band is known for bringing back the sound of the 1960s and then adapting to modern audiences. That is a feat which defeats many outfits that attempt to make it in this way. The single ‘Black Rice’ has been described as being infectious. Their success in Public Strain was not marred by the public brawl that led them to go on an indefinite hiatus. At the same time Christopher Reimer branched out by joining Dodo as a backing guitarist. The early death of such a talented young man is bound to shock the Indie Music community which is limited but extremely close.
