Several members of the United States Congress have received mail that threatened of an upcoming biological attack. Some of the envelopes also contained a suspicious white powder. Testing by law enforcement officials on the white powder was able to confirm that the powder was not harmful; however, authorities warned that there could be similar letters on their way.
There were a number of media outlets, as well as some television shows, that received a letter stating that 100 United States Senators had been mailed a letter. Ten of those letters, according to the mail received by “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and the New York Times, would contain a deadly biological pathogen.
John Boehner, who is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, received a letter, as did two senators. All three of those letters contained a white powder, but it was harmless. The letters to the media were postmarked out of Oregon.
Terrance Gainer, who is the chief law enforcement officer for Congress, sent out a notice to all senators and staffers. It warned that some of the letters could contain a dangerous, possibly fatal, substance. He warned staffers to be extra vigilant with mail from Portland, Oregon.
None of the letters that were received by the media contained any suspicious substance. Some of the other media that received a letter included the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, “Fox News”, “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” and” This Week with Christiane Amanpour,” and MacNeil/Lehere Productions.
The letters demanded that there would be an end to lobbying, corporate money, and corporate personhood. The sender wants a new constitutional convention. All of the letters were signed the “MIB.” All of the letters have been turned over to the proper authorities. The FBI is investigating with the assistance of various police department across the country where the letters were received.
