Ryan Phillippe has dropped out of CBS’s latest police drama project, saying that he simply is not comfortable with the intense production demands that come with a network series. Phillippe is currently on the set of “Damages.” The FX network show is filming its fifth season and it is also the series last season.
Phillippe was supposed to be cast as a police officer who rises through the ranks very quickly, going from beat officer to detective and up to police commission. It was previously known as “Golden Boy.” The search will now begin for his replacement. The rest of the cast includes Stella Maeve, Kevin Alejandro, and Chi McBride. The pilot is written by Wootton, who is also one of the executive producers. The other two are Richard Shepard and Berlanti. The studio is Warner Bros. Television.
Phillippe is just one of a handful of well-known actors who are taking the leap into pilots. Kevin Bacon is due to star in a drama pilot based on a serial killer for Fox. Dennis Quaid is supposed to star in a new drama based on the life of a cowboy and Ralph Lamb. Paul Bettany is leaving the pilot for “Masters of Sex” for Showtime. Michael Sheen is moving in as the replacement.
Ryan Phillippe has found fame through a number of television and movie roles, “One Life to Live,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Crash,” and “Stop-Loss.” He just finished up with the movie “Straight A’s” which will also feature Luke Wilson and Anna Paquin of HBO’s “True Blood.” There have been some hints that Phillippe will also have roles in a future “Chronicle” film and “The Stanford Prison Experiment.” He has been married and divorced from Reece Witherspoon and had two children with her. He also had another child with Alexis Knapp.
