The Vigor 3900 by DrayTek, similar to the Vigor 3200n, is multi-WAN router that is designed to be used by businesses. Just like any other multi-WAN router, you get yourself two internet ports to connect two different internet connections. This scenario is an excellent way for many businesses to work in an environment that is free from internet unavailability. The router automatically switches to the second internet connection if one goes off. In this review, I will look at the performance, specifications and features of the router to help you decide whether this is a good investment for your business or not.
Unlike the Vigor 3200n, the Vigor 3900 is meant to be used either by a medium or a large business profile. The device is designed to be mounted on a rack and does not ship with Wi-Fi capability. In comparison, the predecessor router came supplied with Wi-Fi technology and was also standalone, which means it did not require you to mount it on a rack. Because of many reasons that I will discuss later in the review, the price of this router is almost double from its sibling.
One of the major reasons why the Vigor 3900 is so expensive is due to the easy use of the router. While a lot of other high end devices are available, this is the one of those which does not require you to hire a network team to manage. A lot of enterprise level routers are expensive, but they also require a team to manage, which can cost you a lot of cash as compared to just getting the device.
At the rear of the Vigor 3900, you get yourself four WAN ports, each able to hold an internet connection of its own. You can also use the interface of the router to manage the traffic and load balancing rules. The router also supports fiber optics connectivity, and you can also easily connect a completely standalone machine to the router dedicated for configuring the network. Two USB 2.0 ports are also available that lets you connect either a hard drive or 3G USB modem. My only disappointment came when I did not see any USB 3.0 ports on the router, but if you are a medium sized business, this is a great router to ensure that your work gets done undisturbed.
