Randy Travis, a popular country music singer from the 1980s and 1990s, was arrested for public intoxication on Sunday night in Texas. On Tuesday, he decided he needed to apologize to the world for his actions that night. Travis is quick to blame the Super Bowl for his actions, saying that he was simply celebrating.

Travis spoke with TheWrap on Tuesday, saying that despite the arrest, he’s committed to being accountable and responsible. The singer was arrested in Sanger, Texas, which is located about an hour from Dallas. He was found early Monday morning, stumbling, swaying, slurring, and carrying a bottle of wine that was open. He was also in front of a church.

Someone called police after seeing what they believed was as suspicious vehicle. Travis was sitting in his vehicle in front of the church. The car wasn’t running, but he certainly smelled of alcohol, according to officers who responded to the call.

The officer that arrested Travis said that the country singer said he’d had fight with his girlfriend. The officer also noted that it was very difficult to understand exactly what Travis was saying because his speech was so slurred. The officer transported Travis to a local jail about 1:30 in the morning. He was booked and released after being cited for public intoxication. Of course, the press loves a good mug shot and that’s the photo that has hit the airwaves.

Travis came into the country music scene in 1985 and since then, he’s recorded 20 albums and had more than 30 singles on the charts. He’s also been in several films and television shows. Travis has won six Grammys for his music and he’s sold more than 25 million records. Twenty two of his songs have hit number one, as have six of albums.
