Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 60 years as Britain’s Monarch on Monday. The day was marked with a quiet celebration, as it is also the day when King George VI passed away. However, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee did not go unnoticed on Accession Day. Queen Elizabeth has the second longest reign in Britain’s history, second only to Queen Victoria.
Queen Elizabeth spent the day in King’s Lynn, which was covered in snow. She was dressed in warm, colorful overcoat and a blue hat. There were about 150 people who braved the cold to applaud and show their appreciation. It was 1952 when she became Queen and for many Brits, she is the epitome of dignity, integrity, and wisdom. In addition, Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne since before many Brits were born.
Queen Elizabeth said that Prince Philip, her husband, and she were very moved by all the well wishes for her Diamond Jubilee. She said that she is rededicating herself to the service of the British people. David Cameron, the prime minister, said that the queen has always guided the country with quiet authority and dignity. He also said that he wanted to express his thanks to the queen for her dedication and continuity.
This year, there will be several events that will mark the queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Several members of the royal family will travel to Commonwealth countries, such as Belize, Jamaica, and Canada. The queen and Philip will stay in Britain and begin travelling next month until July. The country will celebrate the Diamond Jubilee weekend in June. There will be a pageant featuring more than 1,000 flotillas on the River Thames and a concert.
Queen Elizabeth said that she wanted the country to give thanks for all of the wonderful advances that have been made and to embrace the future with a warm heart and a clear head.
