Role playing games are quite fun to play and come in two different variants. The most popular variant of such games is where you have to gather large armies such as the King’s Bounty. The other variant is also very popular with fans and you have to amass a band of heroes. Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts follows the later and you have to gather a band of loyal heroes but the game has some serious problems. The review shall reveal the pros and cons of the game.
Anyone who has invested time in such games knows the importance of character building. The game lacks some serious character development and plays on stereotypes like a funny talking black man and dumb blonde. The game follows the star from the previous game, going on an adventure and has to gather some friends in order to go on the quest. Drake suffers from amnesia and is faced with several challenges when he wakes up. No review is complete without discoing the plot and the story.
Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts lacks in many disciplines and adds nothing new. The story and he plot is cliché and has been done before. The only thing fun about the game is that you get to meet random and multiple people. You may find all the running and jumping about a bit interesting but anything other than that is just pure boredom. Your friend’s accompany you on your quests but you don’t get to set their marching order which leaves them in a bit of a stumble when the battle starts. The combat options are also very limited and you can’t do many things.
Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts lacks many things and there are numerous things that if done properly could have made it into a worthwhile game. The worst thing about the game is its humor and there is a lot of it. Game developers have always struggled with adding some good old fashioned humor but many have done a marvelous job with it. This particular German game however lacks some serious fun and the humor is pathetic to say the least, something that is important to mention in the review.
