Nick Carter Performs Instead of Attending Sister’s Funeral

While the saying, “the show must go on” is usually referring to all the problems that commonly arise before a performance, taping, or recording, it’s usually not what one expects when it comes to the funeral of a family member. On Sunday even, Leslie Carter’s funeral was happening in Mayville, New York at the Freay Funeral Home. She would be buried at the Chautauqua County Cemetery. However, there was one family member who was not there to see Leslie laid to rest – her brother, Nick Carter.

Nick, a former member of the Backstreet Boys, was performing in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania at the iHeart Performance Studio. It’s the third performance for Nick since Leslie died from a drug overdose. Leslie was 25.

Nick spoke with TMZ about not attending his sister’s funeral. He said that he wanted to be there, but his family has “a complicated dynamic.” Nick said that he is full of a wide range of emotions when it comes to the loss of his sister. He wants to stay focused, positive, and healthy. TMZ said that there were rumors that the family has gone out of their way to make sure that Nick felt that he was not included in the funeral arrangements or the funeral itself. It does appear that the family is somewhat estranged.

Leslie died on February 1. Later that day, there was a message on Nick’s website that said he was very grateful for all the prayers and wishes from his fans during this very tragic time in his life. He also wanted to let people know that he would continue his tour as his fans had been promised. Nick said that it was cathartic for him to perform and he wanted to dedicate the remainder of his tour to Leslie because she always enjoyed watching him perform.
