She should know something or two about manufactured music. That is the impression that Madonna gives when she says that Britney Spears is better than Lady Gaga. The press had started to compare the Material Girl to Gaga and she felt that it was time to set the record straight. When asked about Born this Way, Madonna said that it was a great way to redo her song. One can understand why Elton John has been beastly to the woman of recent. When interviewed by the Advocate, she as good as said that Spears was the superior singer when compared to Gaga.
Will she get a response?
One of the most amazing things about Lady Gaga is her ability to hide insinuations of conceit. Nobody needs to tell her how much success she has had in a short career. On the other hand Madonna is an ageing prima donna who has unsuccessfully tried acting and directing. That comment was not necessary especially when it referred to a woman who was a baby when Madonna was a fully grown woman. This is dangerous territory since the subject of her missives is very influential in the world of gay culture, one of the very reasons that Madonna has been successful.
Why all the bitching? It seems that the singer is being put out of joint by the seemingly endless criticisms in the press. First of all she was accused of leading some poor African country down the garden path by promising to build them schools that were never completed. They then complained that Madonna used her money and influence to buy a child. Finally her attempts to portray Wallis Simpson were not greeted with critical acclaim. One writer even had the temerity to say that the singer had always been a bad actress and is now turning into a bad director.
