Joe Maddon has agreed to work with Tampa Bay’s for another three years. The new extension with the Bay will keep Maddon with the team till 2015, unless there is another new extension then.
The deal between Maddon and team was announced by the team at a news conference that took place in Tropicana Field. Rays has its reasons for keeping Maddon as the team manager since he led the team to playoffs in three out of a total four seasons. Maddon also believes that this year, the team might again get back on its track and make it to the playoffs.
Previously, there were speculations about Joe Maddon getting signed by other teams if Bays didn’t sign him. However, while saying that the speculations flattered him, he had no desire to quit Tampa Bay. Joe Maddon has excelled in taking Bays to where it is now even though Bays is amongst the team with the lowest payroll in baseball. A year before, the Rays lost 6 of its key players to the free agency and traded another two. However, despite that, the team managed to win 91 games as it finished on the second spot in AL East, which has been reigned by the high spending teams included Red Sox and Yankees.
Maddon said that in the last couple of years, he has growth a lot. The man lost a total of 101 games back in 2006 and another 96 in the seasons after that. However, in the past four seasons, the team has had an average of 92 wins. The team has a great offensive attack, led by B.J Upton, Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena, Ben Zobrist and Luke Scott.
Maddon has proved to be an asset for the Bays and the team will hope he continues to be so in the years to come.
