It’s been a little bit longer than initially expected, but “Mad Men” will return to AMC on March 25 for its fifth season. The first promo clips have been released, but if you want to know what’s in store for the new season, you won’t likely learn much.
The two clips are titled “Roger Is Back” and “Don Is Back.” As expected, both clips show the two characters, played by John Slattery and John Hamm, out drinking and womanizing. However, it’s rather interesting that neither face can be seen in the clips.
The premier – which will be two hours – will begin at 9 p.m. on March 25. According to the creator, Matthew Weiner, it’s more like a “Mad Men” movie rather than two episodes running back-to-back. Other than one story that will start in the middle of the premier, it is pretty much just a single story. The beginning and the end are connected to each other.
The following week, John Hamm makes his directorial debut in the second episode. The show will also move to its regular time slot at 10 p.m.
“Mad Men” focuses on the life and times of advertising men in the 1960s. The show has won four Golden Globes and fifteen Emmy Awards. It’s the first time a basic cable show has won an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series – and it won that award every year since 2008. The show has had a significant increase in viewer numbers since episode one. In fact, last season’s premier was the most watched episode in the history of the network until “The Walking Dead” premiered for its third season.
Take a look at the two clips below. You’ll see that the new season is going to focus on the two men that are now “back” on their game, but there’s not much else to learn.
