It was an ignominious photo shoot for four TCU footballers who were arrested on drugs charges. Apparently they wanted to sell the stuff to the highest bidder. The Texan Christian University is just another in the long list of religious institutions that are let down by the people who either run them or belong to them. This is a culmination of a six month investigation into drug dealing. The Fort Worth Campus is completely mired in the scandal especially at a time when religious institutions are attempting to get exemptions from federal government regulations on account of conscience and freedom of religion.
The students who are not immune to the charms of drugs
It is very tempting to make fun of the TCU. Many people have often engaged in hypocritical behavior where they claim to be born again Christians but then behave in ways which are completely against the religion that they profess to follow. Meanwhile the law enforcement agencies are continuing with their investigations. The university has an enrollment figure of 9500 students. In total they have arrested 18 people and the news is likely to hit the national headlines on a grand scale.
For the families, this is yet another headache. High profile names include Tanner Brock who is a junior linebacker and David “D.J” Yendrey who is a defensive tackle. Devin Johnson is a junior safety while Ty Horn is an offensive tackle. Some of the students had received national awards for their talent and it is not clear whether these will be withdrawn on account of the arrests. The students were apparently attempting to sell drugs to undercover officers. The list of substances includes ecstasy, marijuana, cocaine and some prescription drugs. Clearly the war on drugs has to be taken back to the TCU in order to protect the students and the community.
