Flickr, Yahoo’s photo sharing website will soon have a new interface for viewing as well as uploading photos.
Markus Spiering, the product head of Flickr provided BetaBeat a sneak preview of these changes that will be released starting next week. One of the changes is redesigned photo view that that have a similar distributed layout of Google+. By diminishing white space, more photos can be displayed by Flickr on a page. Most of the details will remain hidden until users roll over a photo with a cursor.
The photo uploaded will also get the much-needed makeover with the support for drag-and-drop uploads directly from browser. Users will also have single-view for editing the full batches of images at one time.
Over 3.5 million photos are being uploaded to Flickr through PC as well as mobile devices every day and in last August the site had its sixth billionth upload.
But, Yahoo, owner of Flickr has been criticized for its lack of activity since it was acquired in 2005. It has been criticized for being stagnant in the field of competition not only from social networking sites Google+ and Facebook but also from Instagram, mobile competitors.
Spiering has told BetaBeat there will be no big “New Flickr” campaign and the image viewer and upload page are just the big changes that Flickr will roll out on 2012.
