Christina Aguilera’s Former “Mickey Mouse Club” Cast Member Performs on “The Voice”
There is little doubt that some people get all the breaks. However, it’s been quite a ride for Christina Aguilera since she was part of “The Mickey Mouse Club” back in the early 1990s. Some of the people that performed with her went on to become big stars, including Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Keri Russel. However, there are some members whose careers never really got off the ground after “The Mickey Mouse Club” ended in 1994.
Tony Lucca was one of the latter group. While some went on to form pop groups with other performers, Lucca decided that he was going to make his fame and fortune by himself. He performed in many smaller venues and clubs. Aguilera, though, would never quit working. She was always performing in talent competitions, clubs, and she even had her own single recorded. Aguilera would find her big break through Disney. She sent in a demo that would eventually lead to a song on the soundtrack for the movie “Mulan.” A record deal with RCA would follow.
Tony Lucca never gave up, though, and he would perform last night on “The Voice.” Aguilera was listening as he sang “Trouble” and he did so very, very well. Adam Levine would be the first to hit that button to turn the chair around and it didn’t take but a few lines of the song. Blake Shelton would press the button next. Aguilera wouldn’t be left out and she turned her chair around, as well. Levine wound end up pushing Cee Lo Green’s button for him, too.
Aguilera did not recognize Lucca when he was on stage or when she was talking to him afterwards. She would tell him that he had a “silky tone” and Shelton said that it sounded like Lucca had been singing for a while. Tony would eventually choose Levine as his coach. When he walked off the stage, he threw Aguilera the peace sign. You could see it finally register with her.
Aguilera would go backstage after she recognized Lucca. She spent a few minutes with him and his family before returning to the stage. Lucca was very happy to be reunited, although Aguilera’s comment about the crush that Brittney Spears had on him didn’t seem to strike a chord with Lucca’s wife!
