Greeters at Wal-Mart stores countrywide are uncomfortable about the new change in their duties. Moreover, this month, greeters at Wal-Mart were moved deeper into the stores to assist shoppers find what they are looking for and steer the aisles. While speaking to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Ashley Hardie, Wal-Mart spokeswoman said that the greeters still greet the shoppers. Adding further, she said that this is a vital part of their position.
Hardie revealed that the new responsibility and the move inside the stores were realized in the last 2 weeks. She reassured that no positions were eliminated. On the other hand, numerous greeters are unhappy with the new changes and have also expressed their worries through “OUR” Wal-Mart, which is an organization funded by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. An 86 year old greeter at Wal-Mart, Gloria Pascale, said that she has worked in the store for more than 15 years and she has to continue working as a greeter to help pay her mortgage bills and support her children and grandchildren. Adding further, the 86 year old said that she is a bit worried. She said that she loves greeting shoppers but with the new changes it will be difficult for her to carry on. Furthermore, Gloria said she was lately told at work that her responsibility would comprise some lifting and other actions ahead of what she’s physically able to do. She said she is under treatment for congenital heart failure.
Barbara Holland, Seattle resident said that she started as a cashier back in 2000 but progressed ahead to the greeter position after she suffered an injury in late 2004. Adding further, she said that as a result of her injuries she can’t stand for extended periods of time. Meanwhile, Hardie said that theft avoidance is not a key function of store greeters. The 86 year old said that the stores have assets protection teams that are taught to monitor thefts.
