February 15, 2012 by: 0

The Blue Jays are another team in MLB that have avoided arbitration since 15 years and if there is one person this fact is making happy, it is Casey Janssen. On Monday, Janssen and The Blue Jays agreed to a new, two year contract, worth $5.9 million. The deal between the two comes one day before the scheduled salary arbitration hearing at St Petersburg, Fla.

Casey Janssen said on Tuesday, while talking in a telephonic conference call that staying in Toronto for some additional years is going to be great.  As a part of the deal, the player will get $2 million in cash in 2012 and $2.9 million in the coming year. The deal also includes a $4 million team option for another year, 2014.

Casey Janssen proved to be a good player for The Blue Jays last year and was a relatively better option for the team. The player went with 6-0 last year, accompanied by two saves and an ERA of 2.26. The Blue Jays haven’t been into court for a hearing since 1997. Back then, the scheduled arbitration hearing was for Bill Risley.

Casey, the 30 year old, who’s hometown is Orange County, California, has had 221 appearances for The Blue Jays in the last five seasons. While speaking further on the telephonic conference call, Janssen said that there is always some excitement and some comfort in knowing that a guarantee is still there. He also said that the future of The Blue Jays is good and bright which is something that appealed to him a lot.

Alex Anthopoulos, the General Manager of The Blue Jays has been going through a lot of different deals and signing as he allowed Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch to leave the team and also signed with the New York Mets.
