RIM, the Canadian company which is responsible for bringing wireless email technology to the world, revealed that it has brought email to its PlayBook device. The announcement, which was later met by mixed opinions, by the company regarding the new OS came on Tuesday.
The email app is another addition of the many to the 2nd edition of PlayBook’s OS. The application will be available for free, at no-cost, for download. Previously, during last year in April, people were taken by a surprise when initially, consumers could only send or receive emails if they were connected to the BlackBerry mobile phone.
Even though the new email app feature has been introduced to the PlayBook now, the upgrade comes after a long delay. In addition to the email app, the PlayBook will also be able to run some applications which are developed for devices that use Android operating system. It also includes few of the famous features found in nearly every OS and device these days, including automatic integration with messages and information from different social networking sites, which includes LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, with calendar, email and contact applications.
With the new software upgrade, those who own the BlackBerry phones will also be able to use the similar keyboard, which is on their phones, as a physical keyboard for the tablet via a wireless connection.
A lot of the analysts have appreciated BlackBerry’s new OS by Research In Motion but at the same time, they were skeptical that it will help Research In Motion to become a significant name in the tablet market or inspire customers to be patient and wait for a line of devices/phone or tablets based on the same software.
Even though the improvement in the operating system is worth noticing, as compared to the past OS, it is still not sufficient to help RIM regain its lost market share or make an impact on consumers, after doing poorly for many months now.
