Big Ang Brings Mob Wives to Downton Abbey

The two programs are the direct opposites of one another. Mob Wives has a title that is self explanatory but that is not hindrance to Big Ang. Apparently a reenactment of Downton Abbey is in the works despite the obvious misgivings of people who enjoy both programs together or separately. It seems that the notoriously fickle American audiences are enamored by this program which can be described as being a bit of dross. The concentration on the English upper classes of the 1910s is not something that immediately comes to mind when you think about the land of the free.

Bridging the cultural gaps between Downton Abbey and Mob Wives

One has to pay tribute to Big Ang for trying this thing out. Many people would have been intimidated by the idea of having to bring together two programs that seemingly have nothing in common. In particular Raiola wants to take on some of the famous quips by the acid-tongued matron of the stately home. The lines have been prepared in advance and mirror the magnificent acting of Dame Maggie Smith, a past winner of the Emmy Awards. Will Big Ang be able to portray the haughtiness of the Dowager Countess of Grantham?

The video is hilarious and is a testament to the kind of crossover appeal that Downton Abbey is having. Some of the quotes that are read by Smith are so memorable that they are likely to become something of an institution. Of recent some critics have labeled the show an absolute waste. That position is not too dissimilar from the attitudes that were adopted towards Mobs Wives. Taken on their merits, the interpretations are not only hilarious but also charming. They represent a certain perspective to a British program that has remained a key success point in the USA.
