Animal Rights Activists Tries to Hire Hit Man to Kill Random Person Wearing Fur
Sometimes activists can do their supported cause more harm than good. Such is the case with Meredith Lowell, 27, who lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She has been charged with trying to hire a hit man – who was actually an undercover FBI agent – to kill a random person wearing fur.
Lowell allegedly created a fake Facebook page in hopes of finding the perfect hit man. According to the affidavit that was filed in district court, she wanted to find someone to do the deed either at the end of October/beginning of November or January/February 2012.
The undercover FBI agent then contacted Lowell. The FBI had subpoenaed Facebook in order to get details about the profile she created. When he contacted Lowell, she told the agent that she wanted the killing done in a library. She also wanted to be there when it happened because she could hand out pamphlets that gave information about animal cruelty once the person was dead.
Lowell was pretty meticulous about what she wanted. She told the agent to bring along a knife that was sharp and at least four inches long. She said that he should have it sharp enough that he could slit the person’s throat or stab them with it. She wanted the person to be at least 12 years old – that’s what she wrote in an email to the agent. Lowell went on to say that she would really prefer the person to be at least 14, though. She also wanted the person to die in under two minutes.
Back in April of last year, Lowell wrote and sent an email to the Police Department in Cleveland Heights. She said that she was conducting her own investigation of the fur industry. She urged the police to do the same.
Lowell was arrested by United States Marshals on Tuesday and is in custody awaiting a hearing. Lowell’s attorney did not respond to requests for comments.
