Amanda Knox Signs Book Deal with HarperCollins – Promises Full Account of Events
Amanda Knox has signed a book deal with publisher HarperCollins. According to a statement released by the publisher on Thursday, Knox’s book will give an unflinching and full account of what happened in the days before her arrest and the complexities of the judicial system in Italy.
Knox has not spoken publicly of her four years in an Italian prison other than to say that she was grateful for her acquittal and release. The book is supposed to be supported by journals that Knox kept while imprisoned. She will talk about what happened when she was arrested and her treatment at the hands of police, guards, and even other inmates. The publisher’s statement said that she will reveal details that haven’t been released before, as well as how she used her strong ties to her family and her inner strength in order to deal with her time in jail.
The book is scheduled to be released early next year. HarperCollins said that there are a lot of reporters and writers who have speculated on how involved Knox really was in the murder of Meredith Kercher. This, however, is the first time that the world will hear Knox’s account of what happened.
The financial terms of the book deal have not disclosed. There have been reports that the book deal is worth about $4 million.
Knox was charged with the murder of Kercher, who was a 21 year old student from Britain. There were all kinds of lurid details presented by the prosecution. Knox was originally found guilty, but was later acquitted when defense attorneys proved that DNA evidence, as well as other evidence, had been improperly handled. The judge who freed her strongly criticized Knox’s conviction. Earlier this week, though prosecutors in Italy asked Italy’s highest criminal court to reinstate the convictions.
