Alexi Casilla, the second baseman and the Minnesota Twins have agreed on a new, one year deal. The deal between the two has been finalized for $1,382,500, with some saying that the team and player reached a common ground before they would have been required to go for a salary arbitration hearing. The deal was finalized on Wednesday.

Previously, the Minnesota Twins had made an offer of $1,065,000, while Alexi Casilla demanded $1,750,000. In the last season, Casilla earned $865,000. Both, the player and the team, failed to reach an agreement on the terms of one another. However, a deal was reached between a middle ground as the primary goal of the two parties involved was to avoid salary arbitration.

For Minnesota Twins, it has been a while since their last salary arbitration hearing. The team hasn’t been in the court for a hearing since 2005 and 2006, as back then it was Kyle Lohse who was involved in the case, which was settled by an arbitrator.

Alexi Casilla was the last player of the Minnesota Twins that was unsigned and was arbitration eligible. However, the deal has now been finalized between the team and the player which means there are no chances of any more court visits for the team or any player. Moreover, it also means that Minnesota Twins have avoided salary arbitration hearing for this year because there is no arbitration eligible player left in the team.

Alexi Casilla will start with Jamey Carroll, the veteran newbie shortstop. Alexi can play on both middle infield positions. The player, who is 27 years of age, had an injured right hamstring. However, on the whole, he played just one game in the previous season after the 27th of July. Casilla batted with .260 in aggregate 323 at bats, having 21 doubles, two home runs, four triples and 21 RBIs.
