A Teen Mom is Accepted into a Drug Diversion Program

Life is anything but simple for Teen Moms especially if they are getting involved in banned substances. The name Amber Portwood will ring bells for people who are addicted to the reality television circuit. Essentially this is a young woman who is finding her way. A Madison County judge has not ruled that she is allowed to take part in the drug court diversion program. This is a bit of good news for the MTV star. She will then finish her sentence in a halfway house instead of remaining in jail. At the moment she is held in jail until a place is confirmed at the Sister 2 Sister facility. It is a place that offers an opportunity for recovery.

Ordinarily no one would be particularly bothered about the fate of Amber Portwood. However things have changed. She is now in the midst of a serious sentence for a serious offense. Others may be of the view that the court is being very generous in the ruling so that the star is not forced to spend lots of time in jail as would have been the case in normal circumstances. It is also not a good reflection on Teen Mom as a program when one of its stars is busy trying to fend off serious charges in court.

In her initial request Amber Portwood has requested that she lives with her grandparents. This is not something that Judge David Happe agreed with. He told her that he understands her frustration at being in jail for long but that the court has to ensure that she does not commit another offense whilst on release. The public outcry would be great if such a thing happened and the courts are always mindful of their PR work even as they make rulings in complex cases. The fame or notoriety of the subject also means that another course of action had to be pursued.
