Kirstin Dunst talked with Juju Chang, a reporter with ABC, about her nude scenes in the movie “Melancholia.” She said that she believes the scenes are beautiful, but she also said that she was lying down and that made it a bit easier. Dunst plays a deeply depressed woman who is expected to marry in the movie “Melancholia.” Her character is shown lying naked on some mossy rocks, bathing, and the scenes are not something that Dunst is embarrassed about. She knows that the scenes will be splashed across the internet, but she said they were shot well.
Dunst said that she was worried about what her family would think of the nude scenes, though. She said her father is from Germany and he said that it was a form of art. Her brother didn’t think it was such a big deal, either. Dunst referred to herself as the only one who was a prude about the whole thing.
There’s been a lot of buzz about the movie and Dunst’s role. It’s possible that she could be up for an Oscar. Those nominations will come out on Monday. The Cannes Film Festival already awarded her Best Actress for the role. It’s a powerful movie about depression. Dunst said she learned a lot about the disease and how it can put some people into an almost childlike state. However, back in 2008, Dunst was treated for depression, too. She spent some time at the Cirque Lodge in Utah. Dunst said that time in her life helped prepare for this role.
One of the most powerful scenes in “Melancholia” has Dunst in a bathtub, suffering greatly – although silently – and completely unable to function. Dunst said that looked inward to find the strength needed to play the challenging role. She nailed it, too.
