Although most hard drives manufacturers offer free tools for diagnosing and checking the physical state of the HDD, for example Seagate SeaTools for Seagate and Maxtor hard drives and WD Data LifeGuard diagnostic for Western Digital hard drives, there are cases in which users do not have these programs and they need third party apps to identify and fix hard drive problems.
HDDScan is such an application, free, with the help of which users can diagnose damaged sectors on the hard drive and can identify their working state.
The application can offer elementary information, like the number and name of the hard drive, serial, firmware version and LBA ( logical block addresing ) as well as advanced and detailed information about the condition of your hard drive, all in just a few clicks.
The Identity Info feature displays information about the LBA support, ATA version, sizes of the logical sector as well as of the physical sector, size of the cache, RPM, interface, etc. Also, this feature can be used to find out if the HDD supports data managing, SMART tests, password protection, power management and other features.
HDDScan supports IDE, SATA, SCSI and RAID as well as SSD ( Solid State Drive ), external USB devices and USB Flash storage devices.
