Charlie Sheen’s “Anger Management” Is the Troubled Actor’s Second Chance

Charlie Sheen’s new show, “Anger Management” will be debuting in April on FX and according to John Landgraf, who is the network’s president, Sheen deserves another chance.

Landgraf spoke on the TCA stage about how the show developed into what it will now be, but he also took some time to talk about why he feels that Charlie Sheen will always have a spot in pop culture. Landgraf said that some people want Sheen banned to Siberia, but that’s not what he needs. Landgraf said that Sheen is all about getting his house in order and dealing with his issues with substance abuse. Landgraf also said that Sheen is ready to try to turn around the public image that he now has.

Of course, Landgraf has a lot riding on the success of “Anger Management” and it has to be a bit on the scary side to have to put your faith in Sheen to being with. Let’s face it; he hasn’t really been “winning” all that much lately.

The new series is based loosely upon a 2003 film of the same name that starred Jack Nicholson and Adam Sandler. Filming hasn’t started yet, but Landgraf said that the basic premise is this: Sheen will play a character that has a pretty checkered past (sounds familiar) but that is really coping fairly well (sounds unfamiliar to Sheen.) There’s a desire for Sheen’s character to try to live a better life, such as having a better relationship with his daughter and his ex-wife.

The network has received a lot of criticism for the series, with many saying that FX has had far too many strong and dynamic women on the air to put up a show like this. Landgraf dismissed such criticism, saying that the show could be a good thing for society and not just for Sheen.
