Raam’s Shadow is a brand new Downloadable Content for Gears of War 3. Before we saw the lambent and Riftworms in Gears of War 3, the series was all about getting rid of emergence holes of the locusts. Gears of War 3 took us to brand new places which were more colorful and alive then the rest of the games. Raam’s Shadow takes us back to the time before the beginning of the first game. The story starts with Locust making their move to overtake the llima, right after the Emergence Day. This review will focus the gameplay and features of the game.
The Raam’s Shadow has brand new playable characters and a lot of fun battles, which makes it an amazing addition to a game that is already so good. Like the name suggests, player will take role as Raam himself in this DLC. I found through the review that playing as Raam is an entirely different experience. You cannot roll or hide in covers, you can’t even dodge on coming attacks, its really all about running into your enemies and ruthlessly killing them. Raam is so strong that I often felt very overpowered, this also means that the DLC is not challenging enough, infact there is no signs of any challenge here.
The story of the DLC is a little uninteresting because it starts with the events that happened before the first game and ends with the same events in the end of the first game. There is no excitement because we already know what happened in the first game’s end. Most of the environments of this DLC seem a little limited. Most of the times you will be going through doors looking for trouble.
Raam’s Shadow is a good DLC when it comes to gameplay but it isn’t really the best we can expect from Epic Games. The story could have been better; we could have seen something from the third game. The idea of bringing the game back to its root is often too predictable, but fans of the game should still enjoy this a lot.
