Assassins Creed Recollection is an entirely different experience unlike its predecessors on popular consoles. This portable version of the game mixes some unique gameplay mechanics consisting of collectible cards and strategy games all set in Assassins Creed universe. Players can use game specific currency to get new cards and increase their decks. After you collect your cards and form decks, you can start the single player campaign consisting of 20 or so missions. You can also compete against other players using the online matchmaking system. This review will focus on the gameplay and design of the game.
One of the best things about Assassins Creed Recollection is that it feels like the developers really put energy into making its card battle sequences. These card battles are very complicated and complex, offering a lot of challenge and entertainment at the same time. Though, after getting owned by the A.I during the initial phase of the review, I highly recommend that you go through the huge tutorial of the game. The basic idea here is to take control of three different territories during the encounter in a single stage. To control a territory, you must score 10 points before your opponent can. You earn points by placing site and agent cards.
The site and agent cards are the basic bread and butter of the battle. The agent card acts like an assassin, while the site card works like a tower. Each of these cards when placed on the map earns you points automatically over time. The strategy mechanic comes into focus when you realize that each of your cards takes time to recharge. You also need gold in order to place your card, which also gets increased as time passes by. There are also some special cards which give the player surprise functions that can stop an opponent from acting or completely destroy their incoming attack.
Assassins Creed Recollection proved to be an amazing game as I kept playing it until the end of my review. This is a solid package with a lot of cards available and many missions to compete in. If you have an iPhone and love the Assassins Creed universe, you should definitely add this to your collection.
