Internet Explorer 9 is surely the most stable Internet Explorer version ever released by Microsoft. But after using it for a long time, it also has errors.
The “Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working” dialog box does not necessarily mean a browser error. It can be a driver conflict, or a conflict with a script ( Java, actionscript, ajax, etc ).
In our case we are talking about the nvumdshim.dll module which can not be “digested” by Internet Explorer 9 when we access websites that are GPU demanding. This is a typical error of laptops and computers with Nivida video cards, and it especially appears when users set Internet Explorer to use the GPU.
How to fix it ?
We open the GPU settings ( Customize Which Program use the GPU ) > Manage 3D Settings > select “Microsoft Internet Explorer” and we set IE to use the integrated video card.
It case we only have a dedicated video card then we must disable the 3D / CUDA GPU modules for the Internet Explorer application.

That solution which worked for me after just about every web page crashed laptops in IE9. I think it reflects badly on those who laptop manufacturers that users are left to work out the solution what is obviously a known problem, So, well done and thank you.
