Google’s social networking site, Google+ will soon launch a feature that will allow its members to make free conference calls within the Hangouts.
Jarkko Oikarinen, a Google staffer who is also the inventor of first-ever internet chat function, Internet Relay Chat has used his Google+ page to declare that the outside phone calls can be placed from inside a Hangout. If you are already on Google+ then you must be aware that Hangout is a virtual room that lets members to video chat with others.
This means that user no longer require Google account or even a desktop to join the conversation. Thus, a Hangout group can now call anyone if the receiver just has a phone to listen. This step could not only tempt more and more people to join Google+, but simultaneously has the potential to overturn the way both conference calls and party lines are conducted. This ranges from making holiday plans with family and friends to holding meetings.
Oikarien said, “We are constantly listening to feedback so that we can make Hangouts even better for Google+ users, and we’re excited by the really cool ways people are using the products.
Adding call to Hangout is very easy. Just click “invite” at top of Hangouts with Extras window followed by selecting the “Phone” tab on left of the window. After inserting the phone number, choose “Call Now”
The feature presently supports free calls to Canada and US and is available on Hangouts with Extras page.
