Great Little War is a charming game that borrows ideas from Advance Wars and puts it into a tactics game. Developed by Rubicon Development, Great Little War features a hilarious setting with humorous characters and cute visuals. You play as Force Blue, a force dedicated to getting rid of the armies of Force Red. Force Blue is led by a stereotypical general, Generalissimo. I will try to cover the basic gameplay mechanics of the game in my review.
Great Little War is based on turn based battles. You move your forces across the battle field attack your opponents and finish your turn. When you are done with your turn, the opponent takes its turn and tried do the same with you. The battleground has many circles on it which represents the moves your soldiers can take, much like any other tactics game. There is a lot of strategy involved because your units can only move a number of circles at a time in a turn.
During the start of the review, I figured that I was able to control only two very basic kind of units under my disposal. These units were the snipers and grunts. As you progress through the game, more units come available like the bazooka men and the engineers. Even further in the game, you get to control vehicles like jeeps and tanks. Each battleground has a set of objectives that you must complete in order to win.
In the very start, basic objectives like killing all your enemies are common. As you progress, more advanced objectives are made available to you. These objectives include taking out the enemy base or surviving for a number of turns without getting your general killed. There are also a number of achievements you can score in the game. If you complete an objective quickly, you get an achievement of quickly finishing the objective. At the beginning of each turn, you receive funds. These funds can be used to purchase more troops to add in your army.
Great Little War is an excellent game that has everything you would want from a package that is affordable and easily bought. This is definitely recommended to all Android phone owners.
